One of the most important factor in the reduction of emissions from the road transport sector is the maintenance of vehicles (their combustion system). The new system of periodical roadworthiness testing was set up in order to ensure technical maintenance of the country's car fleet. Namely:
The plan for testing of the whole fleet during two years was prepared, based on vehicle registration date.
The relevant legislative base was prepared and the following resolutions came into effect from 1 January 2018:
Resolution No. 511 of December 1, 2017 of the Technical Rules - on Approval of "Technical Requirements for Technical Facilities of Building-Structures, Equipment and Personnel of Periodical Technical Inspection Centers of Motor Vehicle" which ensures proper functioning of technical inspection centers and high quality examination.
Resolution No. 510 of the Government of Georgia dated December 5, 2017 on approval of technical regulations on periodic technical inspection of motor vehicles and their trailers. The resolution was created on the basis of the relevant Euro directive. As a result, the inspection parameters got closer to European standards.
Unified electrical system of vehicle inspection was introduced. The system is constantly monitoring the vehicle inspection process and automatically generates inspection results, minimizing the human factors and the risk of corruption in the process of inspection.
In emission control, the visual smoke control was added to the carbon monoxide (CO) control.
